MacKinnon scored his first, Berra lost

The World Championship in Minsk continued with four games today, two of the games featuring Avalanche players. Reto Berra started in goal for Switzerland and Nathan MacKinnon played against Czech Republic later this evening.
Berra and Team Switzerland faced off against hosts Belarus. After two days, the Swiss found themselves at the bottom of group B and were desperate for much-needed win today. Belarus wasn’t ready to grant the Swiss side their first points and scored 4 goals, thus granting the Swiss their third loss in a row. Berra’s performance didn’t help his team either, 2 of the Belarusian goals were rather soft. Switzerland’s still without a point and is facing relegation. Berra made 19 successful saves.
Switzerland – Belarus 3:4 (2:1, 0:1, 1:2)
Nathan MacKinnon played an important role in Canada’s win against the Czechs, although the game was closer than the Canadians would’ve liked. Czech forward Roman Červenka opened the scoring in the 6. minute of the game. The lead didn’t last long; Joel Ward tied the game mere 4 minutes afterwards. The game was decided in the second period, with MacKinnon giving Team Canada a 3:1 lead with his power-play tally. The Canadians were leading 4:1, but were left worrying as the Czechs scored 2 goals in the game’s final period. Jaromír Jágr came close to tying the game in the dying seconds, but couldn’t beat goalie James Reimer. MacKinnon spent 15 minutes and 37 seconds on the ice and also had 2 penalty minutes.
Czech Republic – Canada 3:4 (1:1, 0:3, 2:0)
