Corey Crawford, Blackhawks shut out Avs

Corey Crawford made 38 saves for his second shutout in three games, Artem Anisimov extended his point streak to nine games, and Marian Hossa scored two goals to help the Chicago Blackhawks to a 4-0 victory against the Colorado Avalanche at United Center on Thursday.
It was the fourth straight win for the Blackhawks (7-3-1). Crawford, who made 12 saves in the first period, 14 in the second and 12 in the third, has allowed one goal in Chicago's past three games.
Hossa scored in the first period to make it 2-0 and again 55 seconds into the third for a 3-0 lead. He's scored four of his five goals this season in the past four games.
Jonathan Toews scored a goal, Artemi Panarin had a goal and assist, and defenseman Duncan Keith had two assists for Chicago.
Semyon Varlamov made 17 saves for the Avalanche (4-5-0), who have lost their past two games and four of five. Varlamov entered the game 11-4-1 with a 2.12 goals-against average and .940 save percentage in 17 career games against the Blackhawks.
The Avalanche trailed 2-0 after the first period despite outshooting the Blackhawks 11-1 through the first 12:55 of the period, aided by two power plays, and 12-7 overall.
It was the ninth time in 11 games an opponent has outshot Chicago in the first period.
Toews made it 1-0 at 14:25 of the first with a goal off the rebound of a shot by Keith.
Hossa scored his first of the night 38 seconds later for a 2-0 lead. Anisimov extended his NHL career-high point streak with a secondary assist.
In the second period, Crawford preserved the 2-0 lead by making eight of his 14 saves in the final 4:15.
