Wagner to make Avs debut against TOR

Wagner to make Avs debut against TORThe official game preview Colorado Avalanche vs Toronto Maple Leafs.

Season series: The Colorado Avalanche and Toronto Maple Leafs each won a game at home in the 2014-15 season series. The backup goalies, James Reimer of the Maple Leafs and Reto Berra of the Avalanche, each had a win. Matt Duchene scored two goals for Colorado.

Avalanche (7-9-1) team scope: Center Chris Wagner, who was claimed off waivers from the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday, will make his Colorado debut on Tuesday. How much he plays will be determined by the availability of forward John Mitchell, who has missed four of the past six games with an oblique ailment. The Avalanche began a season-high seven-game, 15-day road trip with wins against the Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens by a combined score of 13-3. In those games, Duchene scored four goals and eight points and was named the NHL's First Star of the week. Berra has played well in the absence of injured starting goalie Semyon Varlamov (groin) and will make his fifth consecutive start, the Denver Post reported. Captain Gabriel Landeskog will serve the second of a two-game suspension.

Maple Leafs (5-9-4) team scope: After playing four games in six nights, Toronto was off Monday. Reimer, who was named NHL's Third Star of the week, helped the Maple Leafs to three straight wins before Jonathan Bernier got the start in a 4-3 road loss against the New York Rangers on Sunday. Reimer will be in net Tuesday. "[Reimer] is starting against Colorado. That's where I'm at. The bottom line is we're in the winning business," coach Mike Babcock said after Bernier made his return from a lower-body injury Sunday and allowed four goals on 30 shots.
