Avalanche Signs Comeau

Comeau, 29, spent this past season with the Pittsburgh Penguins where he recorded 16 goals and 15 assists for 31 points in 61 games. The Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, native shared the team lead with five game-winning goals, which included two overtime winners. All 16 of his tallies came at even strength, ranking fourth on the Penguins. Comeau finished second on the team with 188 hits.

Comeau’s five game-winners were a career high, as was his +6 plus/minus rating. His 16 goals and 31 points were the third most of his career, and his highest totals since 2010-11 (24 goals and 46 points with the New York Islanders). The 6-foot-1, 202-pound left wing went on to dress in all five playoff games for the Pens, scoring one goal (1g/0a).

“Blake is a versatile forward who is dependable and can be used in all situations,” said Avalanche Executive Vice President/General Manager Joe Sakic. “He will add not only scoring but also some grit to our lineup as well.”

Selected by the Islanders in the second round (47th overall) of the 2004 Entry Draft, Comeau has tallied 195 points (88g/107a) in 483 career NHL games with the Islanders, Calgary Flames, Columbus Blue Jackets and Penguins. He has also appeared in 11 playoff games (1g/0a).

Prior to turning pro, Comeau (KOH-moh) played four-plus seasons with the Kelowna Rockets, where he won a Memorial Cup in 2004 and was named to the WHL West First All-Star Team in 2005-06.
