Johnson To Miss All-Star Game
The 26-year-old Avs defenseman won't be going to Columbus, Ohio.Colorado Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson will miss this weekend’s NHL All-Star Game and festivities in Columbus, Ohio due to a lower-body injury.
Johnson, 26, was the first Avalanche defenseman to be selected to the All-Star Game since Rob Blake in 2003-04. In fact, Johnson is only the fourth Colorado defender to be named to the All-Star Game since the franchise relocated to Denver, joining Ray Bourque, Sandis Ozolinsh and Blake.
The Bloomington, Minn., native is tied for first among NHL defensemen scoring with a career-high 12 goals this season. The 6-foot-4, 232-pound rear guard has 23 points (12g/11a) in 47 games, placing him second among Colorado blueliners in scoring. He ranks fourth on the Avalanche in goals, and first on the club in ice time (24:25), blocked shots (107) and power-play goals (3-tied).
While this appearance was slated to be his first at the All-Star Game, Johnson did represent the Western Conference at the 2008 YoungStars game in Atlanta during his rookie season with the St. Louis Blues.
