Avs players with a day offEurolanche brings you the daily recap of everything important that happened at the Olympics in Russia involving Avalanche players.

The knockout stage at the Olympic tournament kicked off today with the its first 4 games. No Avalanche players were in action today, as Landeskog, Duchene and Stastny enjoyed a day off thanks to their teams winning their respective groups resulting in a bye today, while Semyon Varlamov only sat on the bench.

Russia won against Norway 4-0, thus ensuring a place in the quarterfinals where they will square off against Finland. Alex Radulov sealed the deal with his empty-netter in the final minutes of the game, making the score 3-0 for the host nation. Semyon Varlamov is expected to start between the pipes against Finland.

Russia – Norway 4:0 (0:0, 2:0, 2:0)

Latvia got a shocking win against Switzerland, getting an early 2-0 lead and hanging onto it even after the Swiss got one back. Latvia sealed the game with an empty net goal in the ending minutes of the game, winning their first game at the Olympics since the tournament in Salt Lake City in 2002. Former Avs player Sandis Ozolinsh didn’t get any points, but the Latvian captain  had the team’s highest total ice time (21 minutes and 52 seconds).

Slovenia – Austria 4:0 (2:0, 1:0, 1:0)

Czech Republic – Slovakia 5:3 (3:0, 1:1, 1:2)
