Avs fall to Blue Jackets in OT

The Avs faceoff against the BJ’s in today’s afternoon game. This is the first game back for the new highly touted highly paid O’Reilly. He will most likely be skating on the third line with Mitchell and Hedjuk. The avs starting tonight Forwards: Matt Duchene, PA Parenteau, Jamie McGinn; Defense: Jan Hejda, Tyson Barrie; Goalie: Semyon Varlamov. Pickard will be backing up tonight as Jiggy had to leave to attend to personal matters with the death of his mother.
The Bj’s take the first penalty of the game and get the first kill of the game. Shane O’Brien takes a holding call and then while on the PK the avs get called for too many men on the ice. The avs must then kill of their customary 5 on 3 per game. The Avs kill of both. The Period ends with neither team scoring the Bjs leading the shot count at 8 to 5.
The Bjs take a penalty early on in the second and kill it off. Varly is keeping the Avs in the game so far with some big saves. McLeod drops the gloves trying to wake the Avs up. The Avs score first off a goal by Parenteau assisted by O’Brien and Barrie to make the score 1-0. Bordy gets in a fight late in the second. The second period ends with the Avs still up by 1.
Bordy takes a penalty in the third to give the BJs a PP. Then Duchene gets called for an iffy penalty to put the Avs on the 5 on 3 for the second time this game. Then O’Reilly gets his first of the season but it won’t really count because it was on his own net. BJs tie the game up at 1 and still on the PP. The game goes to 4 on 4 late in the game. The third ends tied at 1 to 1 heading to OT.
The BJs get a PP right at the beginning in OT. The Bjs get the goal and lose in OT. Varly played his heart out but of course was not rewarded with a win. The Avs once again looked slow and uncaring in the afternoon. O’Reillys biggest impact in his return game was an own goal. So there you go Avs lose in OT again get that loser point to make it seem worth something. Oh and ya the refs were horrible again but that not just an Avs thing they have been bad league wide this year so no excuses.
