A big night in Avalanche history as Milan Hejduk plays in his 1000th game. The Avs look to get a win against the Dallas Stars for Hejduk. Starting for the Avs Forwards: Matt Duchene, Jamie McGinn, Milan Hejduk; Defense: Erik Johnson, Matt Hunwick; Goalie: Semyon Varlamov.
The first does not start great for the Avs on this big night. Down early off a breakaway goal by Benn. After some back and forth play for most of the middle frame the Stars strike again. A goal by Morrow puts the Stars up 2-0. Not long after the goal Patrick Bordeleau and Hunwick goes to the box to put the Avs on the PK down 5-3. Varly makes some huge save to kill off the PK. The Avs get back into the game off some great play by the man of the night Milan Hejduk. He scores his first goal of the season assisted by Paul Stastny and John Mitchell. Right after that the Avs go on PP hoping to tie things up. But before they get the chance they end up in the box themselves PA Parenteau with the hook. The first period end with the Stars up 2-1
Not much happens in the beginning of the second. Both teams going back and forth with some scoring chances. The Avs get a PP midway in the period. The Avs were not successful on the attempt. They would get another chance right away as what looked like a Stars goal turned out to be goal interference. Once again nothing but once again they go right back one the PP. Finally the Avs get the power play going. Scoring to tie the game up 2-2 off a goal by Parenteau who is assisted by Stastny and Jamie McGinn. The Stars regain the lead again Benn’s second of the night to put them up 3-2. The second end with the Stars up 3-2
The first half the third is uneventful. Both teams get some scoring chances none can finish. The Avs get a PP midway in. They don’t score. Later in the period the Avs have to kill of a Star PP. The successfully kill it off. The Avs pull Varly with just over a minute left in the third in hopes of tying it up. The Stars do not score on the empty net.
