Avalanche signs Joe ColborneFormer DU Pioneer set career highs in points with Calgary last season.

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced today that the team has signed forward Joe Colborne to a two-year contract through the 2017-18 season.

Colborne, 26, set career highs in goals (19), assists (25) and points (44) while appearing in 73 games for the Calgary Flames this past season. He finished fifth on the Flames in goals and was sixth in points. Colborne ended the season with five multi-point efforts in his final seven games, tallying 11 points (3g/8a) during that stretch. The Calgary native has recorded 106 points (38g/68a) in 233 career NHL games for the Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs.

Selected by Boston in the first round (16th overall) of the 2008 Entry Draft, Colborne played two seasons at the University of Denver from 2008-10. The 6-foot-5, 221-pound center was acquired by Toronto on Feb. 18, 2011 and made his NHL debut for the Maple Leafs in the 2010-11 season finale. He was acquired by Calgary on Sept. 29, 2013 and spent the last three seasons with the Flames.

As a freshman at the University of Denver in 2008-09, Colborne was named to the WCHA All-Rookie Team. He followed that up by being named to the WCHA Third All-Star Team as a sophomore in 2009-10.
