Avs will be without Landeskog vs Jets

Season series: The Colorado Avalanche have won three games of four games against the Winnipeg Jets. Colorado scored three times in the third period of a 4-1 road win on Nov. 23. Matt Duchene and Gabriel Landeskog each had a goal and two assists in a 5-3 home win Nov. 28. Semyon Varlamov made 36 saves in a 2-1 win at Winnipeg on Jan. 18. Jets forward Drew Stafford had two goals and an assist in a 4-2 road win on Feb. 6.
Avalanche (35-30-4) team scope: Landeskog will serve the first of a three-game suspension for a cross-checking incident against the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday. Andreas Martinsen will replace Landeskog on a line with Shawn Matthias and Carl Soderberg, coach Patrick Roy told the Avalanche website. "He played so well last game [against Anaheim]," Roy said. "I was very happy with him." Roy also said he is "very comfortable" with dressing 11 forwards. A four-game road trip starts with Colorado having three wins in its past four games and holding the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs out of the Western Conference; the Avalanche are two points ahead of the Minnesota Wild. Varlamov has started the past two games, but Roy did not name a starting goaltender.
Jets (27-35-5) team scope: Defenseman Dustin Byfuglien's status for Saturday remains unknown. He left early with an upper-body injury in a 3-2 road loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday. If Byfuglien is not able to play, the Jets would have to recall a defenseman from Manitoba of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis. Winnipeg, which did not skate Friday, has one win in its past nine home games (1-7-1). Center Mark Scheifele has a six-game point streak (six goals, three assists) and 16 points (nine goals, seven assists) in his past 11 games. The penalty kill has gone 16-for-16 in the past five games. With forward Joel Armia (lower body) out for at least a week, forward Scott Kosmachuk remains with the team on emergency recall. Coach Paul Maurice has not named a starting goaltender.
