Lightning seek third straight win at Avs

Lightning seek third straight win at AvsThe official game preview Tampa Bay Lightning vs Colorado Avalanche.

Season series: The Colorado Avalanche defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 Oct. 29 at Amalie Arena. Alex Tanguay and Nathan Mackinnon each had a goal and an assist for Colorado, and Jarome Iginla had two assists. Semyon Varlamov made 35 saves for the Avalanche. Alex Killorn scored for Tampa Bay.

Lightning team scope: Tampa Bay ends a four-game Western trip seeking its third straight win. Forward Jonathan Marchessault, who has been scratched the past two games, worked on the first power play unit at practice Monday, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Vladislav Namestnikov has three assists playing with Steve Stamkos the past two games and has a plus-5 rating. Goaltender Ben Bishop ended his three-game skid (0-2-1) with a 3-2 win Friday against the Edmonton Oilers and will likely start Tuesday.

Avalanche team scope: Colorado coach Patrick Roy told the Denver Post he will start Varlamov after pulling him from a 6-3 road loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday. Varlamov allowed four goals on 20 shots in the game against Chicago. The Avalanche have won their past three games at Pepsi Center and have scored at least four goals in each of them. "We're going to have to play like we did play at home the last three games, good defensively," Roy said Monday. "Obviously playing that type of hockey allowed us to win those three games, and they were tough games. Los Angeles, St. Louis and Nashville, we had to play some good hockey to win those games, and we're going to have to play the same way (Tuesday). Three in a row at home … we've got to build on that." Defenseman Nick Holden did not practice Monday after bruising his foot Sunday, but he is probable against the Lightning.
