Team White Wins Burgundy/White Game

Alex Tanguay, Mikko Rantanen and Jack Skille scored and Team White won 3-1 on Sunday in the Colorado Avalanche's annual Burgundy/White Game at Magness Arena.
Joey Hishon tallied with 2:32 remaining in the third period to help Team Burgundy avoid being shutout in front of 4,803 in attendance on the University of Denver campus.
White outshot Burgundy 36-32 in the contest, including by an 18-9 margin in the second period but were only able to tally once in the stanza. Rantanen scored the lone goal in the period after tapping the puck in after it got past Burgundy goalie Semyon Varlamov and was lying in the crease.
Tanguay opened the scoring with 32 seconds left in the third period on a 2-on-1 rush with Nathan MacKinnon, and Jack Skille extended White's lead to three after scoring off a rebound at 5:45 of the third period.
Four goaltenders were used in the game, with each playing roughly 30 minutes. Varlamov started for Team Burgundy, making nine saves on 11 shots, while Reto Berra stopped all 14 pucks he faced for Team White. Calvin Pickard for White and Spencer Martin for Burgundy entered the game at 10:25 of the second period and finished the contest. Pickard stopped 17 shots, while Martin denied 24 pucks.
Next up for the Avalanche is the first preseason game on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against the Anaheim Ducks at Pepsi Center.
