Landy aims to stay hot, Avs host Bolts

Season series: Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Ben Bishop made 40 saves, and forwards Nikita Kucherov and Ryan Callahan each scored a shootout goal in a 3-2 win against the Colorado Avalanche at Amalie Arena on Jan. 17. Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and an assist.

Lightning team scope: Forward Ondrej Palat scored two goals, and Bishop made 22 saves for his 30th win in Tampa Bay's 4-2 victory against the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday. "It wasn't our prettiest win of the year, but at the end of the day, it's a win," Bishop told the Lightning website. Palat has three goals and three assists in his past four games. Tampa Bay is 3-1-0 on a Western Conference road trip that ends Sunday. The Lightning trail the Montreal Canadiens by one point (81-80) for first place in the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference. The struggling Lightning power play scored twice Saturday after going 1-for-18 in the past seven games. "They get a double minor -- you've got to score one there, and we did. That was a big weight off everybody's shoulders," coach Jon Cooper said of the first power-play goal.

Avalanche team scope: Captain Gabriel Landeskog scored in a 4-1 win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday to extend his goal streak to five games. Colorado has won three of its past four games. "For us, it's about going out there every night and trying to inch our way closer and really scratch and claw our way into this playoff spot," Landeskog told the Avalanche's website Saturday. Goalie Semyon Varlamov made 27 saves in his 15th straight start. Tyson Barrie had two goals and an assist; he leads Avalanche defensemen with 35 points in 57 games. "He's just playing solid hockey," coach Patrick Roy said of Barrie. "[Friday] was a really solid performance by him. He was very sharp. I thought he was as good offensively as defensively." Colorado has won five straight games against Tampa Bay at Pepsi Center since the 2006-07 season.
