The Los Angeles Kings were 1-1-1 against the Colorado Avalanche last season. Goalie Semyon Varlamov's 19-save shutout gave Colorado a 1-0 overtime win on Nov. 23, 2013. The Kings won on Dec. 21, 2013 when Martin Jones, filling in for injured Jonathan Quick, made 23 saves to become the second goalie to win his first eight NHL games. Anze Kopitar had two goals and an assist to help Los Angeles rally for a 6-4 win on Feb. 26, 2014.

Kings (26-18-12) team scope: Los Angeles is on a five-game winning streak; the Kings have scored 19 goals, and Quick has a 2.20 goals-against average and .911 save percentage. The Kings are 19-6-6 at home and 7-12-6 on the road. Forward Dwight King is on a four-game point streak (three goals, four assists). The line of King, Jeff Carter and Tyler Toffoli has combined for 10 goals and 11 assists in the past five games.

Avalanche (24-22-11) team scope: Colorado, trailing Los Angeles by five points in the Western Conference, was off Tuesday before it finishes a four-game homestand. Varlamov, who has started 13 straight games and 21 of the past 22, was rested in the third period of a 5-2 win Monday against the Arizona Coyotes and is likely to start. Colorado has scored 15 goals in its past four games, including two in a 9-second span against Arizona that tied an Avalanche record. Colorado ended an 0-for-32 slump on the power play with defenseman Nick Holden's first-period goal. For the first time in Avalanche history, they held an opponent without a shot in a period. Forward Matt Duchene reached 300 NHL points with a goal and an assist against Arizona, extending his assist streak to four games.
