Rookie Michael Ferland had both goals for the Calgary Flames, who won 2-1 in Denver to keep the Colorado Avalanche winless in five preseason games.

Ferland opened the scoring 6:57 into the game and snapped a 1-1 tie when he scored 5:00 into the second period, 69 seconds after Colorado's Ryan O'Reilly had tied the game.

Karri Ramo stopped 22 of 23 shots through two periods for the Flames, and Joni Ortio made 13 saves in the third period. Semyon Varlamov finished with 22 saves for Colorado, which is 0-4-1 in the preseason and has been outscored 17-7.
