The Colorado Avalanche announced today that they’ve signed forward Marc-Andre Cliche to a two-year contract extension through the 2015-16 season. The one-way contract’s worth $700,000. Cliche was claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings prior to the start of the season on September 22, 2013. The Rouyn-Noranda native skated in 54 games for Colorado this season, tallying a goal and 5 assists. Cliche leads all Avalanche forward in short-handed ice time at 2:35 per game.

The 26-year-old Cliche recorded his first NHL point with an assist on October 4 against Nashville and scored his first NHL goal on February 1 versus Buffalo. “Marc-Andre has been a solid addition to our club,” said Avalanche Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Joe Sakic. “He’s done a tremendous job on the penalty kill, has great work ethic, and we’re excited to have him under contract for the next two years.” Cliche was originally selected 56th overall by the New York Rangers during the 2005 Entry Draft. Prior to this season, Cliche had appeared in a single NHL game on March 2, 2010 against Dallas as a member of the Kings.
