MacKinnon to wear #29

You can order your jersey now.
Nathan MacKinnon took to Twitter earlier today to break some news saying "Hey everyone, this season I'll be wearing number 29 for the @Avalanche!"
29 isn't the flashiest number but hopefully MacKinnon can bring it a little bit of fame.
It was suspected that maybe Matt Hunwick would give up #22, the number MacKinnon wore during his junior career with the Halifax Mooseheads. Perhaps Hunwick elected to keep it or maybe MacKinnon wanted a new number for the start of his new career. Either way, he can always switch back to #22 when Hunwick is off the roster (that probably won't be long).
MacKinnon is expected to make the team out of training camp. Head coach Patrick Roy already stated that he sees him centering the third line between Jamie McGinn and Steve Downie.
There seems to be something special about the #9. If you look at the Avalanche's core group of forwards you'll notice it a lot. Matt Duchene wears #9. Gabriel Landeskog wears #92. Ryan O'Reilly switched last year to #90, and now MacKinnon will wear #29.
Expect to see big things from Colorado's 9s this year if the Avs are going to make the playoffs.
