Avs traded Cumiskey for Newton, pickKyle Cumiskey was traded to Anaheim Ducks for Jack Newton and the draft pick.

The Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club announced tonight that the team has acquired defenseman Jake Newton, along with a conditional draft pick (Seventh-rounder in 2013 turns into 2012 fifth-rounder if he plays 45 or more games with Ducks.), from the Anaheim Ducks organization in exchange for defenseman Kyle Cumiskey.  Newton will report to Colorado’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters.

Newton, 23, is currently playing for Anaheim’s AHL affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch. The San Jacinto, Calif., native was signed by Anaheim as a free agent on March 17, 2010 after playing one season at Northeastern University in 2009-10.  He was selected to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team at Northeastern.
