The Avs top the Blues 1-0 in OT

The Avs offense looks to keep rolling against the Blue. Hopefully tonight the Avs defense shows up too. Colorado Avalanche starters for the night: Forwards: Aaron Palushaj, Paul Stastny, David Jones; Defense: Jan Hejda, Tyson Barrie; Goalie: Semyon Varlamov Not the normal starting lineup Duchene and Co. Sacco does seem to like Jones a lot for whatever his reasons.
The first 15 minutes of the period were boring. Couple shots by both teams as they try to feel each other out. The once we hit the 5 minute mark things start to pick up. Varly makes some good saves when the Avs defense falters. McGinn get a breakaway right after but cannot score. The period ends 0-0 still with Varly the much busier goalie facing 9 shots to Halaks 2.
The Second period starts out all the Blues. Just taking control of this game all control. The Blue eventually get the Avs to make a mistake and go on the PP. The Avs PK does their job and gets the kill. The Avs finally get some shots and draw a penalty because of it. The Avs power play does not go full length thanks to Statsny getting a hooking call. The Avs kill of the Blues shorten PP. The second period ends with the score still 0-0. The Blue are badly outshooting the Avs by a mark of 24-10 in shots.
The third period starts with the announcement that Hejduk suffers some kind of torso injury and would not be back in the game. The teams trade shots back and forth nothing really happening. Mark Olver then destroy blues rookie Tarasenko with a big hit. This stops the play for a bit to help him off the ice and send Ken Hitchcock into a fit when no penalty is called. After that the game continues on it pace of teams trading slight chances. The game goes to OT scoreless. Blue still outshooting the Avs, but not by as wide of a margin 29-16.
The OT is full of chances for both sides. Both goalies made some big saves to keep their team in it. Hunwick makes some solid plays in the overtime period. He sets up the game winning goal by David Jones. The Avs win the game by a score of 1-0. Varly earns his second shutout of the year with a 32 save performance.
