Avalanche beat the Oilers 3-1Avs win on some good plays by new names.

The Avalanche look to avenge their last lost to the Oilers in the afternoon game. Avs Starters for the game. Forwards: Matt Duchene, Jamie McGinn, PA Parenteau; Defense: Matt Hunwick; Erik Johnson; Goalie: Semyon Varlamov. Scratches: Shane O'Brien, Tyson Barrie and David Jones with a knee injury.

The Oilers strike hard and fast getting a goal early in the first minute by Nail Yakupov. This is his fifth of the year so far for the enigmatic rookie. The rest of the period is uneventful on the score board. Oilers kill off twoPenalties in the game. The Avs also successfully kill off and Oiler PP which is big considering how poor the PK preformed last time against the Oilers. The First ends with the Oilers up 1-0

The first half of the period is uneventful with both teams trading chances. The Avs get their third PP of the game. The Avs then get a 5-3 for 30 seconds after some hard play by the Avs drawing the penalty. Dubnyk makes some big saves during the 5-3 to keep his team up by 1. The Avs can’t score on the 5-4 either. Shortly after the PP, PA Parenteau continues his hot hand scoring the game tying goal for Colorado. He was assisted on the goal by Ryan Wilson and Jamie McGinn. The Oilers get a PP just a few minutes after the Avs goal. The Avs kill off the PK and then take the lead. McGinn scores his first of the year off a beauty of a pass from Duchene. At the end of the second the Avs were up 2-1

The third is back and forth both teams trading chances. The Avs get a PP midway into the Third but can’t score. Varly makes some great saves later in the third to keep the Avs up by 1. The Avs get their second PP of the game after McGinn is held down by Justin Schultz. Varly continues his good night making a big shorthanded save. The Avs PP continues to struggle going 0/6 on the night. Late in the period Paul Stastny takes a penalty on the new rule. By covering the puck with his hand with in the faceoff circle getting a delay of game penalty. The Oilers take a big chance on the PP by pulling their goalie with over 2 minutes left in the game. Which back fire quickly for the Oilers as the Avs kill it off and Stastny scores the empty netter fresh out of the box to make it 3-1. Stastny is assited by Duchene and Mitchell. The Oilers continue to keep their net empty. The Avs win the game 3-1 with Varly making some big saves in the game.

    Quick Notes

  •     A good win to have against a division opponent.
  •     Varlamov went 25 for 26 on the night to get his team the win.
  •     Wilson left the game with an leg injury. Could be more bad news for an already depleted Avs team.
  • ·    Stastny has 3 goals in 2 game earning that paycheck for the fans
  • ·   Parenteau is looking good with his 6 goal so far might be the winger Duchene has been looking for
