Budaj: European teams do not want us

Some media reported Peter Budaj has signed a deal with his hometown team of Banska Bystrica in Slovakia. It is not
true. According to his
latest interview with the Slovak daily newspaper Pravda, Budaj practices in
Denver with circa 10 players of different NHL teams, mostly of the Colorado
Avalanche. Marek Svatos is in that
group and according to Budaj, he is
healthy and in the perfect condition. It is the confirmation of the news
about Svatos, which we
published at our website few days ago.
„It is harder for
goalies now. Teams in Europe do not want us. If the NHL goalie came there,
their No. 1 goalie would be a backup. He would come back to his position in the
not good condition after the NHL goalie came back,“ said Budaj to the Pravda. Budaj
would like to play for his hometown team of Banska Bystrica, in the middle of
Slovakia, Central Europe. As he said, he
has to stay in Denver due personal issues and then he will see how things go
with the lockout situation.
Budaj believes Don
Fehr is the right man on the right place and he told that all players
support him. „I hope the season will
start. It would be a loss for owners, players and hockey. It is better
than nothing to play in 50 games and make fun for the fans. It is hard for
players and fans to understand the reason of the lockout. The NHL incomes were
growing up since the last lockout, so we do not understand, what is owners´
problem,“ closed Budaj, who enjoys his free time with his family and son,
and do some non-hockey activities, but definitely misses the NHL.
