Monsters Win in Shootout

The Lake Erie Monsters took on the Houston Aeros on Friday night. After taking an early lead in the game the Monsters allowed the Aeros to get back into the game. In the end Lake Erie managed to get the win back in the shootout.
The Monsters scored to quick ones in the first period. Thomas Pock lit the lamp first for the Monsters to put them up 1-0. Andrew Agozzino got the lone assist on the goal. After that Mike Sgarbossa hit the back of the net with assists from Luke Walker and Bryan Lerg. The Aeros got back on the board with a goal from Nick Palmieri to make the score 2-1 in favour of the Monsters at the end of the first. The Monsters lead in shots 15-5 after the first period.
Houston tied the game up early in the second period with a goal from Justin Fontaine. After some back and forth play for most of the second Lake Erie retook the lead at 13:35. The goal was scored by Agonzzino and assisted by Paul Carey and Mark Olver. Lake Erie held the one goal lead to end the second 3-2 with a shot lead of 21-13.
Houston once again tied the game up in the third with a goal Chad Rau to make the scored 3-3. Then on the power play the Monsters retook the lead for the third time. The goal was Sgarbossa second of the game. He was assist on the goal by Lerg and Pock both their second assists of the game. But then once again late in the third the Aeros managed to tied the game back up. The late game heroics came from Jason Zucker. The third ended tied up 4-4 with the Aeros taking a shot lead after a 16 shot third period to take a 29-28 shot lead into OT.
OT settled nothing with a combined 4 shots on net from both teams. Sami Aittokallio stop all four shooters he faced in the shootout to back stop Lake Erie to the5-4 win. He had a good night in net making 26 saves on 30 shots. In the other net Matt Hackett had a good night as well in the loss making 27 saves on 31 shots. Three stars of the game were:
