Monsters lose to Heat

Monsters lose to HeatLake Erie out shot Abbotsford but couldn’t get the win.

The first period was full of shot and goals for the Lake Erie Monsters. The Monsters outshot the Abbotsford Heat by a wide margin of 17-3 in the first period. Paul Carey opened the scoring for the Monsters at 6:22 of the first. Carey’s third goal of the season was assisted by Thomas Pock and Dean Strong. Luke Walker got the Monsters up 2-0 just a few minutes later. Walker was assisted on the goal by Agozzino and Van Der Gulik. The heat got on the board with a shorthanded goal by Carter Bancks to end the period 2-1 for the Monsters.

Only one goal was scored in the second period. The lone goal scorer was Roman Horak for the heat to tie the game 2-2. The Monsters continued too out shoot the heat 23-14.

The third period open up the game with four goals scored in the period. Sadly for the Monsters three of them were for the Heat. The Heat opened the scoring with a goal by T.J. Brodie to take the lead 3-2. The Monsters then tied it up with a goal by Mike Sgarbossa to tie it 3-3. David Van Der Gulik had the lone assist on Sgarbossa goal. After that it was all Abbotsford with consecutive goals by Horak and Brett Olson to give the Heat the 5-3 win.

Sami Aittokallio was in the net for the losing Monsters making 18 saves on 23 shots. Abbotsford goalie Danny Taylor fared better making 30 saves on 33 shots for the win. The Monsters get a chance at revenge tonight when they face the Heat again at home.
