Monsters Training Camp

Monsters Training Camp Monster training camp gears up to get ready for the new look AHL.

The Lake Erie Monsters open up their training camp on Wednesday October 3rd. This Monsters training camp will feature a couple events more than just your basic practices for the public.

The first event is an intrasquad scrimmage. This will take place on October 4th Hoover Arena, in Strongsville, Ohio at 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. This will be much like Colorado’s Burgundy and White game which was cancelled this year with the lockout.

The second event will be two preseason games against the Grand Rapids Griffins who are affiliated with the Detroit Red Wings. The first preseason game will take place on Saturday, October 6th in Toledo, Ohio at the Huntington Center at 6 p.m. EST. The second game of this preseason series will take place Sunday, October 7th at Yost Arena on the campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor at 7 p.m. EST.

The Monsters will then open the season at Quicken Loans Arena on Friday, October 12th against the Oklahoma City Barons the AHL affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers. With the lockout still going these AHL games will be a great chance to see the younger NHL level players at work. The Monsters will feature both Tyson Barrie and Stefan Elliot both who were predict to crack the Avalanche roster. The Barons will be featuring Calder trophy runner up Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and 30 goal scorer Jordan Eberle. These are just examples from two teams, with NHL caliber players now on AHL teams this is a new look AHL this season.

While the AHL may not offer the same level of competition that the NHL can. I highly recommend keeping an eye on the Monsters this season. If not just to keep track of the Avalanche prospects but to enjoy some quality pro hockey while the lockout continues. The lockout may be on but hockey love never stops.
