NHL.com: Crosby is better than Sakic

Is this a joke of the year? Or just somebody wants only shocked us? English humor? According to the official website of NHL the 10^th best captain of the history is Shane Doan. Ahead of him are Ray Bourque, Joe Sakic and, wait now little bit… and Sidney Crosby! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, “Sid The Kid” is according the NHL.com better than long-time captain of the Avalanche and Nordiques franchises. Ranking continues with Bob Clarke, Niklas Lidstrom, Denis Potvin, Jean Beliveau, Steve Yzerman and Mark Messier on the first place.

NHL put Crosby everywhere and thanks to that many hockey fans does not like him. For now do not think about it and try to look at the ranking from the independent angle. In spite of that I still cannot stop saying “disgusting”. This kind of ranking is not about trophies, goals or points. It is about leadership, commitment to your organization and teammates. Sakic was one of the best of the best leaders and should be probably in the top 5. He was excellent hockey player and gentleman too. He could score clutch goals, earn important points. The fact Crosby is sill 25 is another reason why he cannot be placed in this ranking.

It is an insult from NHL. It is an attack on Colorado Avalanche fans. This ranking was supposed to include only big all-time captains, REAL CAPTAINS. Crosby is good captain, but you cannot compare his still kids captain skills with hockey legends. There is no way why a player in his twenties can be there. In spite of he missed most of games over the last two years NHL still has not stopped with big marketing activity around his person. He is putting everywhere by the league. And thanks to that, many fans hate him. I guess he does not want it, but has no choice. It is too late to stop the train.
